Lights, Camera, Safari: The Story of Raymond Karago’s Cinematic Adventure

Life Story: My name is Raymond Karago, I am an award winning actor, writer and film producer. I was born in Kenya, East Africa, in 1995. Growing up, it was an early love of movies such as The Lion King, Tarzan and The Jungle Book that inspired a passion for wildlife. I started working with animals as a young boy, including lions, chimps and crocodiles !  At the age of 13, I went to boarding school in England, where, one could say there was an adjustment period! I spent five years there, and it was in England that I discovered a love for the performing arts. I spent the summer of 2013 in London where I was part of a cast of Sister Act at Her Majesty’s Theatre (as part of the West End Stage programme). After graduating High School, I moved to Los Angeles and studied at the New York Film Academy where I received a BFA in Acting for film, as well as an MFA in film producing.

I have been blessed to be in some wonderful roles and projects including drug lord Marcus Cole in the series Gangsters (for which I won best supporting actor at the DreamMachine International Film Festival), the 600: the soldiers story, Low Key Savage Sundays (which is streaming on Amazon Prime), This Thing Called Hip-Hop (Now Streaming on Tubi), Stand uP (which I starred in, wrote and produced), The Exile Road, Lethalz, Illville, Ashes, Niara, the critically acclaimed animated series Twende, and the lead role in the upcoming Kareem’s Oorah, which I also wrote and co-produced. I am currently producing the upcoming “Grabbed by the Ghoulies”, a comedy that deals with dimwitted ghost hunters. My other producing credits include the multi award winning films “Gun 2 Soon” and “Bald Patch “.

At the turn of the year, I returned to Kenya to be with my family and in lue of the SAG/WGA-Strikes, which I fully supported as a member of SAG-AFTRA.

In the last year since being back home, I have been blessed to work with some of the top minds in the rapidly growing industry here. I played a leading role in the award winning series, Salem. I am one of the faces of the Versman brand, I had a role in the acclaimed Netflix Series, Volume,  as well as playing a loving father in the Christmas dramedy “A Merry X-MESS”.  I was also the lead actor in a commercial for the iconic distributing company, DSTV.

In my personal life, I am a huge fan of the English soccer (football) team Arsenal FC, I also watch UFC and Boxing. I enjoy weight lifting, reading and wildlife photography.
